The Suffering + Ties That Bind Dark Audio Collection (2004 / 2005 / Multi-Platform)
The Suffering and its sequel have some incredible sound design that - rather unfortunately - flew under the radar. with no official release and nobody really set on putting out a decent collection of the game’s audio, most people are unfamiliar with it.
i’ve put together a selection of audio from the two The Suffering games in a 30-ish minute nonstop-format collection. a lot of the tunes are short loops, hence it not being very long overall. i’m not the most familiar with the games, unfortunately, so the tracks remain untitled; but that shouldn’t be a problem as it will probably be a front-to-back listen every time.
so yeah, here’s some grinding, clanging, banging audio that gives the first Silent Hill game a run for its money.

WipEout Fury + HD (2008 / 2009 / PlayStation 3)
wonderful collection of tunes, simple as that! Fresh, Ed Rush, Kraftwerk, Noisia, and so on.

Quake (1996 / PC)
needs no introduction. changed the way many people saw the process of scoring a game soundtrack.

Exciting Billiard (1987 / Famicom Disk System)
a very short but very sweet collection of little jazzy ditties. while pretty predictable, there’s no denying that they’re outrageously funky and enjoyable. the soundtrack’s only a few minutes long, so no excuses for not checking it out!

Air Zonk / PC Denjin (1992 / PC Engine / TurboGrafx-16)
awesomely fun soundtrack from an awesomely fun game. even if the PCE soundchip was showing its age against competitors at this point in its lifespan, Daisuke Morishima kept things fresh with some great clear sounds, catchy melodies, and awesome drum samples.

Dangun Feveron (1998 / Arcade)
HEAVEN IS HERE INSIDE MY SOUL!
an amazing disco funk soundtrack to one of the greatest shooters ever produced.
i haven’t found a nicely tagged and organized version of this soundtrack, so i figured i’d post one myself. cover art is not official because i can’t find (or make (no scanner lol)) a decent scan of it.

GO-GO-GST Presents TOAPLAN: A Brief Aural History (Various)
a collection of music selected from arcade shooting game developer giant Toaplan’s shooter career. this doesn’t go outside the scope of the original Toaplan works, so no Cave, Gazelle, Takumi, Raizing, etc here.

Invader (Game Boy Advance / 2002)
pushes the logical limits of the GBA’s sound quality. a great game with a great soundtrack, care of Joris de Man, who went on to compose for things like Killzone, and is known in the demoscene as Scavenger. lots of Amiga, early rave, jungle, and funk influence on this one.

Wario Land Shake It! Funky Selections GST (2008 / Wii)
a selection of the funkiest and most upbeat tracks from Wario Land Shake It! as to keep the music nicely contained. the full soundtrack works great in-game, but doesn’t quite work well in a sit-down-and-listen-through scenario.

Great + Shippu Mahou Daisakusen (1994 + 2000 / Arcade)
two fantastic soundtracks from two fantastic RAIZING shooters. it was originally just going to be a great mahou daisakusen (dimahoo) upload, but i decided to include shippu mahou daisakusen (kingdom grandprix) as well, since the soundtrack is equally awesome.

a fantastic soundtrack to a sorely unspoken-of classic. great neo-geo buttrock and 90s jungle / drum n bass.

Neo Turf Masters (1996 / Neo-Geo)
created by the guys at Nazca (the same folks that did Metal Slug), Neo Turf Masters is a favorite Neo-Geo game of mine. the music (composed by Hiya!, also responsible for Metal Slug’s music) is an awesome mix of lounge-jazz-rock business. it’s a short soundtrack, but it’s really nice.
i didn’t include the million-and-one different “hole in” jingles because they weren’t really fun to listen to on their own and just sounded dumb in the tracklist.
